Our Story

Why This Organization Exists

I started Dede’s Caregiver Companion after losing both of my parents — one to cancer and the other to advanced Parkinson’s disease.

My brother and I were working full-time, living nearly an hour away, and trying to hold everything together as they both declined at the same time. We drove back and forth constantly — bringing food, managing nurses, building wheelchair ramps, helping them bathe, taking them to appointments — doing whatever needed to be done.

It was traumatic. We were exhausted. Overwhelmed. And mostly alone.

When they passed, the grief didn’t pause the responsibilities. There were finances to sort out, a house to manage, and countless details no one prepares you for.

Dede’s Caregiver Companion was created for families in that exact space — the space between love and burnout, between responsibility and heartbreak.

Because no caregiver should have to carry all of it alone.
